Mission of the Month: Food For the Poor
"As often as you did it to one of the least of My brothers and sisters, you did it to Me. Matthew 25:40
Food For The Poor (FFTP) ministers to spiritually renew impoverished people throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Established in 1982, their goals are to improve the health, economic, social and spiritual conditions of the men, women and children they serve. More than 97% of all donations received go directly to programs that help the poor and they are the largest international relief organization in the United States. FFTP raises funds and provides direct relief assistance to the poor, usually by purchasing specifically requested materials and distributing them through the churches and charity organizations already operating in areas of need.
Their ministry reflects God’s unconditional love, which surrenders all, inspires trust and faith, and embraces all people regardless of race, status or creed. FFTP believes that Christ is alive, and that we can best serve Him by being of assistance to those in greatest need (Matthew 25:31-46).
Since they began their ministry in 1982, they have shipped more than 44,000 tractor-trailer loads of food, medicine, educational supplies and other items to those in need. They have built more than 50,000 housing units for families desperately needing shelter. With God’s grace and support from churches and individuals, they hope to continue serving our Lord by helping those who are struggling for survival.
Rev. Robert C. Klemm will speak at both services today about Food For the Poor (FFTP). This ministry provides direct relief to the poor throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Rev. Klemm will share what he has witnessed about FFTP’s mission to care for the destitute as a means of living out the Gospel mandate to love one another. Rev. Klemm was ordained in 1961 for the New Jersey District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Before preaching on behalf of FFTP, he was a pastor in New Hampshire, Florida, Maryland and Massachusetts. He was also involved in prison ministry.
